RHO's Giving Program

As responsible landlords, the members of the Rental Housing Owner's Association of Southern Alameda County care about their tenants and communities. We believe that supporting worthwhile service programs is a smart and ethical investment for the rental housing industry.

Therefore, we encourage you to select one or more of the organizations cited below to support with a monetary donation. Together, we can help make the Bay Area a better place for our residents to live.

CALICO

CALICO Center's mission is to provide a supportive environment to interview children and facilitate a collaborative response to child abuse in which the needs of children take precedence. Since 1997, CALICO has served as a multi-disciplinary hub, bringing together police officers, child welfare workers, and prosecutors to coordinate Alameda County's response to child abuse and link children and families with vital therapeutic, medical and legal support services.

In 2005, we served nearly 600 children, most of whom were sexually abused, and many who were physically hurt, neglected, exploited as prostitutes, and/or witnesses to violence in their homes and communities. CALICO is often the place where these children recount their experiences in full for the first time. A supportive and effective response from CALICO is therefore crucial in fostering a child's healing and ensuring his/her offender is held accountable.

For more information about CALICO Center, visit our website at www.calicocenter.org .

Tax-deductible donations to CALICO can be mailed to: 524 Estudillo Ave
San Leandro, CA. To donate by credit card, or for more information, please contact us at (510) 895-0702 or calicomain@yahoo.com .

Emergency Shelter Program, Inc. (ESP) is a non-profit agency in Hayward, California, caring for battered and homeless women and children for over 30 years. The mission of Emergency Shelter Program, Inc. is to provide shelter, support and education for women and children who are victims of domestic violence or homelessness, and to provide safe, challenging, and nurturing childcare for children in the community. We make this mission a reality through our two programs:

Shelter for Women & Children
ESP operates one of Alameda County's most established shelters for victims of domestic violence and homelessness. At our 32-bed shelter, we provide confidential housing, food, counseling, and advocacy for approximately 220-260 women and children each year. Our dedicated staff assists women in developing the skills and resources, both personal and economic, for self-sufficiency. The children's program provides tutoring, activities, and counseling for the youth at our shelter. ESP's 24-hour hotline (888-339-SAFE) provides information and referrals to over 5,000 women and children per year. To learn more about our shelter click here .

Childcare Center
A Special Place is ESP's licensed childcare center for 41 children, ages 2 months to five to 5 years. We celebrate the uniqueness of each family and take pride in our cultural and racial diversity. In order to meet the needs of low-income families, A Special Place accepts all subsidies, and has access to limited in-house subsidy. We offer an environment that is physically safe, cognitively challenging, and emotionally nurturing for children in the community.
